Zádielska valley and Zádielska gorge

Zádielska valley is located in the southeastern part of the Slovak Karst just behind the picturesque and touristic village of Zádiel. It was created by the Chotárny brook, also called as Mudroom or Muddy brook in massive limestone layers. This stream creates small waterfalls and cascades. The total length of the Zádiel valley is approximately 10.3 km and its beginning is located at an altitude of 1005 m above sea level, below the hill Osadník (1186 m above sea level). Part of the valley is approximately 3.8 km long monumental karst gorge called NPR Zádielska gorge.

The beginning of the gorge is located below the Havrania skala (770 m).

Further on it continues only as Zádielska valley, while below the hill Chvost (851 m above sea level) turns sharply to the west and from there it continues to its aforementioned beginning.

This section of the Zadiel valley is also called the Blatnická valley. and is approximately 6.5 km long.

The end of the valley and the gorge is located above the mentioned village of Zádiel, where it flows into the Turnianska basin.

How to get to Zádiel Valley

The best starting points to the valley are the villages of Zádiel and Bôrka.
The village of Zádiel can be reached by a branch from the village of Dvorníky-Včeláre.

An important road passes through the village of Dvorníky-Včeláre I. class road 16 (I/16) leading on the route Zvolen - Lučenec - Rožňava - Košice.

The village of Bôrka can be reached by a branch from the village Lipovník.

By the municipality Lipovník an important I. class road 16 (I/16) leading on the route Zvolen - Lučenec - Rožňava - Košice.

Access to the valley to the crossroads Zádielská valley - mining station (450 m above sea level) from the village of Bôrka is possible by car on the asphalt road Baks valley approximately 4.6 km long.

From the village of Zádiel passes through the valley red hiking trail to the crossroads Zádielská valley - mining station (450 m above sea level).
