Turnian Castle
Its ruins tower above the village of Turňa nad Bodvou, on a karst hill 375 m high in NP Slovak Karst. There is a national nature reserve Turniansky hradný vrch. On this lonely hill of the Zádiel plain, its massive ruins can be seen from afar. In the past it was the administrative centre of of the Turnian See. The castle consisted of two parts (upper and lower).
From the ruins of Turnian castle there is a nice view of the village Turňa nad Bodvou, the village Háj, the picturesque Háj valley, part of the Zádiel plain, in the east the Jasov plain, part of the Dolný vrch plain, in the southeast the Košice basin and in the south the Turnian basin.
Every year in May or September, cultural and entertainment events are held under the castle. TURNIAN KNIGHT FESTIVITIES.
Accessibility of the monument
The castle ruins can be reached by the blue hiking trail directly from the village of Turňa nad Bodvou, or along the
yellow hiking trail from the village Háj.
The main road I/50 passes through the village, which is necessary to get to the large parking lot, where there is a guest house and restaurant Pod Hradom .
From the car park you need to continue to the left along the dirt road, which connects to the blue hiking trail .
From Turňa nad Bodvou to saddle Hradná stráň (350 m above sea level) it takes a journey along the blue marker 35 minutes.
From the village of Háj to saddle Hradná stráň (350 m above sea level) it takes a journey along the yellow marker for 25 minutes.
From the saddle it takes less than 10 minutes to reach the castle along an unmarked and historic route with wagon wheel tracks.
The village of Háj can be reached by a turn-off from the village of Turňa nad Bodvou, which is located on the important I. class road 16 (I/16) leading on the route Zvolen - Lučenec - Rožňava - Košice.
