Bird observatories at Hrhovské rybníky

Bird observatories at Hrhovské rybníky
Birds and bodies of water belong together. And so does the tourist and professional public. That is why in the Slovak Karst, by the largest ponds in Slovakia, two lookout towers have been built in cooperation with the Hungarian side through the project Amazing Bird World without Borders.
Access
Both wooden lookout towers are located near the village of Hrhov between the towns of Moldava nad Bodvou and Rožňava. One is located on the eastern bank and the other, on the western bank of the pond.
The first one is of a simpler construction and is located about half a kilometre from the state road I/16 (E58) and about a kilometre from the village in the direction of Moldava nad Bodvou or Košice.
The second tower is located behind the State Ponds, accessible by a wide unpaved road that bypasses the fish farm and so you can get to the ponds themselves. Right at the beginning of the ponds there is a taller - 12-meter lookout tower. Its advantage is that it has a wide roof. The access is also suitable for families with children and strollers. It is also suitable for cyclists.
The project included the construction of a green nature trail through the wetlands. The observation towers offer the opportunity to watch birds such as the great crested grebe, heron, heron and eagle eagle, as well as other of the 120 species recorded here.
