Mausoleum of the Andrássy family
The mausoleum in Krásnohorské Podhradí is the final resting place of Count Dionýz Andrássy (1835-1913) and his wife Františka Hablawetz (1831-1902). It was built in 1903-1904 according to the designs of the Munich architect Richard Berndl and its decoration was created by the sculptor Max Frick and the painter Karl Throll. The mausoleum is a unique work of early 20th-century art inspired by early Christian, Byzantine and Carolingian art. There is a 4.5 hectare park around the building and at the back, behind the mausoleum, the faithful dog of the count couple Tascherl (1890-1910)is buried - on the badger's grave there is a sandstone monument with a sculpture of a dog by Hans Bauer.
The mausoleum in Krásnohorské Podhradí was built by Count Dionýz Andrássy for his wife Františka and himself in 1903-1904. It is the work of the Munich architect Richard Berndl and since its completion it has been considered a rare monument of 20th century architecture.
